With many states facing severe overspending problems this year, the pressure to raise taxes at the state and local level is intense. But the root of the states' budgetary problems lie not in low taxes, but in a decade of overspending during the boom years of the 1990's.
To counter the pressure to raise taxes, and to push the alternative of spending restraint instead, ATR has launched Taxpayer Protection Caucuses in the states. This way, ATR's pledge signers will be able to band together and resist the free-spending, big government types.
